FAQ
Where do we pick up phones?
We are only able to pick up phones in Burnaby, Vancouver, Surrey, Delta, Coquitlam and Richmond, however, exceptions can be made for bulk phone donations!
What types of phones do we accept?
Please note, we are only accepting smartphone donations at this time due to internet connectivity and reliability issues with dated, non-smartphone devices. Your donation will be used by some of Vancouver's most vulnerable; please consider donating a device that is reliable. Devices that are unable to make basic calls due to audio issues, have broken screens or charging ports, or phones that lose charge too quickly will not be used for our programs. Broken/unusable phones that are donated to our program are recycled accordingly.
What should you do before donating your device?
We ask that you ensure your phone is carrier unlocked before donating. Phones can be unlocked for free by contacting the carrier that issued your phone. Please ensure that the phone is factory reset and that all sensitive data is cleared before donating. Additionally, please verify that all micro-SD cards and SIM cards are removed from the phone before donation. While our team resets all of our donated phones and makes an effort to return any SD/Micro SD cards we find in donated devices, we are not responsible for personably identifiable data or information that is retained on a phone used for our programs.
How is your donation utilized?
Donated phones are used directly for our programs and are provided to clients with or without SIM cards, depending on the program/request type. While we try to email donors after phones have been utilized for programs, we are not always able to provide updates on all of our donations. If you would like more information on how your phone was used, please feel free to contact us at team@connectvancouver.org, as we retain an inventory of all donated devices.
