summer to winter 2020

A collaboration with the Vancouver Writer’s Exchange to bring smartphones and free phone plans to Vancouver inner-city youth.

This summer, United Youth launched with a mission to connect and empower inner-city youth through collaboration with the Vancouver Writers Exchange. We are happy to have been able to fund more than five years of free cell phone bills and cell phones to marginalized youth in need, despite the challenges of working through COVID-19.

Thank you to our collaborators at the Vancouver Writer’s Exchange who have allowed us to continue making progress where it matters the most! Every year over 700 inner-city kids complete creative literacy projects and receive individualized attention from volunteer mentors to boost their reading, writing and self-confidence. All Writers' Exchange programs are FREE for the kids, youth and families they serve. We are so grateful to our understanding and supportive community for the opportunity to provide a connection and source of empowerment to the youngest generations of the city.

A big thank you as well to the UBC Dollar Project for their ongoing support on-campus. We are thrilled to put the money you have raised at UBC into this project.

Finally, thank you to #RisingYouth for awarding us a grant to achieve our goal of connecting Vancouver's youth. The support of TakingITGlobal, the Government of Canada, and Canada Service Corps is an invaluable tool in our mission to be #leaderstoday and support the #risingyouth of tomorrow.

PROJECT FUNDING

United Youth funded 66 months of free phone bills, with our project goal being 100 months.
